Raymondskill Falls

This last weekend, my wife and I ended up hiking to numerous falls around the Delaware Water Gap.  We had a great time, and I got to play with my new Cokin neutral density filters.  While I’m not quite done sorting all the images, this one stood out as one of my favorites.

For those who aren’t familiar with neutral density filters, Wikipedia has a pretty decent explanation.  Essentially, the filter allows the shutter speed to be slowed down so even on sunny days, motion blur can be achieved — a must for waterfall photography!  I’m still learning exactly how to use them and under what circumstances they work out the best, but this seems to give the desired affect!

Backyard Deer and Fawn

This is one of those situations where you just happen to be in the right place, at the right time.  Seriously!

About a week or so ago I was just getting ready to go to work when I looked out our back picture window to see what looked like a deer grazing in our pasture.  Living out in the country, this is really no unusual event.  However, after looking closer, I realized that this wasn’t a deer grazing at all, but a mother deer nursing her fawn.  The fawn looked no more than a week old and after quickly getting my wife, we simply stood there and watched nature for a while.

After a bit, mother and fawn moved off a few more yards and she proceeded to try to clean the fawn.

After a while, both mother and fawn passed over the hill in the background to graze some more.

Yet one more reason I love living in the country!

Butterfly Gardens

While we were in Maryland for the Memorial Day weekend, we found time to go by the Brookside Gardens and visit the Butterfly Gardens. Now I haven’t had much experience with butterflies, but this was a completely unexpected surprise. I have never seen so many colorful insects in one place. What’s more, there were so many!

We walked a few laps of enclosure and I just kept snapping away.  I particularly enjoy this series due to the bright colors on the butterfly, and the fact that you can see the Proboscis as the butterfly eats.

Memorial Day Food Photography

There are few things in life that bring people together more than good food! Over the Memorial Day weekend, we had the opportunity to catch up with some old friends at a graduation party. The food was absolutely delicious and the conversation just as good. I’ll simply let the photos describe it!

Day 153 – Butterfly Hanging On

Over the Memorial Day weekend, we took a lovely trip down to the DC area to visit some old friends. While we were there, we had the chance to go out and visit Brookside Gardens and visit their Butterfly House. It was amazing — butterflies everywhere!

This little guy was hanging on with one leg to a flower petal.
