Adobe Lightroom 3 will Contain Distortion Correction!

Let’s just say I’ve been wanting Lightroom distortion correction for a while. Of all the new features of Adobe Lightroom 3, this one just may make the biggest impact to workflow.  Up to now, if corrections were needed due to lens distortions, it was necessary to open Photoshop.  It now seems that Adobe is putting these features into the new Camera Raw 6, Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom 3!  Check out this video with Tom Hogarty — the Lightroom and Camera Raw product manager.

It appears that Adobe will ship with a standard set of camera / lens profiles.  They also state in the video that they will make the profile generator available to the public!

  1. Hi Mark, I am currently using the Beta LR3 and really like it. Any idea when we can expect Adobe to release the final for purchase? I have a $75 coupon from Amazon to purchase LR2 (which I don’t have), but makes no sense if LR3 is expected soon, and I would have to pay another $99 to upgrade too. The distortion correction will indeed be a welcome addition, but otherwise the Beta has suited my needs just fine.

  2. So glad to hear that LR3 has been working out well for you. I’m sorry I don’t have any more information than you do, but I’d expect the upgrade to be $99 from LR2 (based upon the fact that it was a $99 from LR1 –> LR2).

Rumors have been circulating and I’d expect to see the official version out by the end of June — though again, this is based purely on speculation. Given the fact that the LR3 Beta 2 expires on June 30th, they have to release something by then (though they may go for a third beta release).
